Technology: History

Intentional Software Corporation was founded in August, 2002 by Dr. Charles Simonyi, previously a Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft Corporation, and Professor Gregor Kiczales, the leader of the development team for AspectJ programming language at PARC. Gregor Kiczales is now a full time professor of computer science at the University of British Columbia.

Intentional Software™ builds on the Intentional Programming project led by Charles Simonyi at Microsoft Research. The Death of Computer Langauges describes the vision for this project; there is also a video of the system. That system enabled programs to be written and viewed in a variety of specific notations, and also permitted the smooth integration of domain-specific and general-purpose programs. Intentional Software Corporation has signed a patent cross-license agreement with Microsoft Corporation to use the patents that were developed in this project.
